atomly 4 life

things have been going great lately. the chicago show and the new york show were both a lot of fun and i was a lot happier with my sets than i was the one in philly. now that i'm getting back into my sets i'm starting to take more bookings, which is awesome.

in addition to that, i've actually been making some new tracks, which is also exciting. the response to the tracks has been good and i've got an EP of some of my new tracks coming out on four life records, a new spanish label with a sweet roster.

other than music, i've just been partying, watching movies and working... the usual. it's finally spring in new york, which is great. i'm excited about the summer.

ich mich sehne nach berlin zurueck

finally, after almost exactly a year, i'm heading back to berlin for a few weeks. i'm leaving on friday (the 25th) and staying until february 10th. it's weird that i've been gone so long, but i can't wait to get back, even if for only a few weeks. even weirder is the fact that i think i'm actually going to really miss new york while i'm gone.

anyway, if you're in the hood, hit me up. i think my german sim should still work, so you can call me at +49.176.6594.1389. holla

i finally got around to booking some new shows, which is awesome. it's been a while since i've played out and the break was much-needed, but i'm excited to get back to it. in addition to that, i've started working on tracks again, which is also awesome. look for some stuff to get posted up here soonish and some info on new releases that are in the works as well.

also, it was my birthday last week, which was a ton of fun. i managed to get my friends to party with me like five nights in a row, culminating in an awesome dance party at my awesome new apartment on saturday night. my friends are awesome and i love my life, fyi. i'll get some pictures posted soonish.

other than that and working (at fotolog, which recently got sold... yay stock options!), i've just been hanging out with friends a lot and seeing a lot of movies. some great stuff i've seen lately: no country for old men, charlie wilson's war, the diving bell and the butterfly, juno, michael clayton, eastern promises, cloverfield, etc... i still really need to see there will be blood and before the devil knows you're dead as well.

darjeeling limited

man, i was so much more impressed by this film that i expected. i was a bit disappointed by "the life aquatic." i didn't dislike it, but it felt a bit forced to me and just didn't resonate the way his earlier films did. maybe wes anderson just got too good at what he did, honestly. i think the onion summed it up best, honestly. anyway, "the darjeeling limited" was great. see it.

other than seeing a lot of films (recent good films include "3:10 to yuma," "eastern promises," "superbad," "2 days in paris," etc.), i've just been hanging out a lot and trying to start working on music more now that it's getting cold.

word.

do you ever go into a really nasty one-toilet bathroom and then worry that when you're done somebody else will be waiting and they'll think that you made that godawful smell? i just walked into the elevator in my office building and it smelled like a million stale farts... by like the third floor that i was subconsciously making a "totally disgusted" face and i realized that it was so that if anybody else got on the elevator i'd clearly indicate to them that i'm not the one that reeks of hobofarts.

dj atomly in the mix mix mix (fricka fricka fresh!)

the "fricka fricka" is the sound of a wicked scratch pikl dj scratching the word "fresh," fyi.

anyway, here's my set from the wolf + lamb party last weekend:

atomly - lowdowntown at spiegeltent - 21 july 2007

other than some sound problems early on, it went great. the space was absolutely ridiculous.. an 80 year-old circus tent on a pier in the financial district. i took a picture of the view of the financial district from the pier. dudical.

who needs the kwik-e-mart?

last night after tribeca grand, jeffrey and i made a late-night trip the 7-eleven turned kwik-e-mart in times square. i know it's a corny promotional tie-in for a major movie based on a tv show that i stopped watching years ago and a giant, international chain of convenience stores, but man it was awesome.

they re-did the entire exterior to look like the kwik-e-mart, put all the employees in authentic kwik-e-mart shirts, plus filled the place full of stand-ups of simpsons characters (and even the old man that froze himself in the kwik-e-mart freezer), and had products like squishees, simpsonsesque donuts, krusty o's and buzz cola. no duff beer, unfortunately, though.

check out my kwik-e-mart trip pics on flickr.

brooklyn massive

new york is continuing to be awesome. back in the day, when i considered moving to new york, i was convinced that i needed to live in manhattan or else i wouldn't have any fun. honestly, though, i love living in brooklyn and i pretty much never go to manhattan except to go to work. i guess it helps that manhattan has become so expensive that nobody can afford to live there and williamsburg in turn has become infinitely hip.

i've played a few shows lately and they've been super fun (nyc, chi, philly, etc), but unfortunately my laptop is still broken so i've been playing off of other people's computers. it sucks having to borrow somebody's computer, but it's also pretty nice to show up with just a usb flashdrive. heh.

other than that i haven't been up to much. mostly just partying a lot in brooklyn and working. work has actually been a lot better than i expected. i think mostly because the work is interesting and my co-workers are cool, or maybe it's just the novelty of it. i thought going back to work after a year and a half off would be terrible, but i guess not.
