2005.10.12.1114 :: like a surgeon

speak of the devil... for anybody who missed it or for those of us who want to hear it again, here's an mp3 of surgeon's set from spybar, courtesy of the naughty bad fun collective.

i personally loved his set and think he's done more than almost any other producer or dj to keep up with new music and stay relevant. during his set somebody came up to me (a techno-head friend) and said, "he keeps playing techno, then shit, then techno, then shit," and all i replied was, "you know, they kept making music after 1997." i was going through my phone last night and found this text message: "to: tony child date: 10/8/2005 02:04 body: more vex'd!" haha... luckily, he acceded.

it's weird to see your friends turn into those people that are obsesed with old music and super nostalgic for the music that came out when they were in their "prime years." it's especially strange when you consider how forward-looking these people were when they started listening to techno. maybe i'm too caught up in my quest for new sounds, but i'm definitely not happy to be one of those people sitting around talking about how the music that came out when i was 17-25 is the best music ever made.
